Off-Grid Solar Power System Calculator

Our off-grid solar power system calculator will help you better understand the impact of the total electrical loads you have to service, and for us to provide a system recommendation based on your needs!

At The Cabin Depot® we specialize in Off-Grid Everything. This means that our experienced team can review your complete list of electrical loads, and provide alternatives or suggestions for lighting, heating, cooling, cooking, water, or waste management for example that may help you lower your overall electrical requirement & reducing the total solar power system investment cost.

Please note: This calculator is intended for off-grid systems, not grid-tied installations.
For the best experience, we recommend using a desktop browser.

Step 1: Your Contact Info & Basic Questions

Please tell us about yourself and your property so we can contact you with a system recommendation.

Property & Usage Questions

What type of location is this system planned for install?
What is the general usage of the property?
Do you require a system that can support 240V devices/loads?
Are you considering a backup generator? If so, portable, or standby?
What type of panel mounting options are you considering?

Your Usage Table

Add (or remove) any appliance you plan to run off the system. We'll track AC vs. DC usage separately.
You can add custom items or select from predefined lists above.
This calculator assumes each appliance runs every day. Please adjust the “Days/Week” field to match your real-world usage. Accurate runtimes are essential for the most reliable system recommendation.

Appliance AC/DC Watts Quantity Hours/Day Days/Week Wh/Day Wh/Week Action
Total AC Wh/Day: 0
Total DC Wh/Day: 0
Grand Total Wh/Day: 0

Total AC Wh/Week: 0
Total DC Wh/Week: 0
Grand Total Wh/Week: 0

Step 3: System Details

Now let's gather a few more details.

Tip: Refer to our Sun Insolation Hours Page Choose the value that matches your usage (lowest for winter, average for seasonal, etc.).
Choose the best match for your planned solar location.

12V: typically used for smaller systems such as seasonal or weekend use camps, cabins, and RV’s with 12VDC dedicated circuits to operate lighting, water pump, composting toilet fan, ceiling fan, or solar/DC refrigerator. Can also operate 120VAC electrical loads via small inverter.

24V: typically used for mid-sized systems with moderate electrical loads and usage. 120VAC output only with some options for 120/240VAC.

48V: typically used for larger systems such as off-grid homesteads that can support even the largest split-phase 120/240V electrical loads.

Flooded Lead Acid: Simple design, lowest cost per Ah with a proven history. Requires electrolyte testing and monitoring. Target 50% DoD.

Sealed/AGM: Moderately higher cost per Ah. Target 50% - 80% DoD. This calculator assumes 50% DoD.

Lithium (LiFePO4): Highest cost per Ah. Newest energy storage technology. Utilizes internal BMS (Battery Management System). Target 80% DoD.

Desired Days of Autonomy means how many consecutive days of will you want your system to operate without any sun or outside charge source available. Note that every day of additional autonomy will significantly increase your battery bank size and overall system cost. Those willing to use a generator more often during winter, or during extended periods of inclement weather, will have a lower system cost but increased operating cost of a generator
